Religious Liberty at 250
For 250 years, religious liberty has been America's first freedom — the one that animates the rest. But the pressing question on this anniversary isn't whether the courts will keep upholding it. It's whether we still have the theological conviction to sustain it. A liberty grounded only in pragmatism is vulnerable to weaponization, so the church must recover the doctrine that makes the conscience worth protecting in the first place.
